Tampa Bay is a large natural harbor and estuary along the Gulf of Mexico on the west central coast of Florida that includes the Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Clearwater Metropolitan areas. Despite varying definitions of what makes up the area, typically Hillsborough County, Pinellas County, and part of Pasco county are considered the core of Tampa Bay. Polk and Manatee Counties are often considered part of the area, too.
Tampa Bay is Florida’s largest open-water estuary, extending over 1,031 square kilometers, and includes Hillsborough Bay, Old Tampa Bay, Middle Tampa Bay, and Lower Tampa Bay.
